The mission of the Pet Prevent a Litter (PALS) of Central Texas, a non-profit corporation, is to help end pet overpopulation and pet homelessness. PALS is dedicated to promoting responsible pet care through community education and spay/neuter programs for those in need.

PALS provides a human service in that we assist socio-economically challenged people to extend their limited resources to their families, rather than caring for and feeding unwanted pets.  We neuter to stop birthing of unwanted surplus pets which would likely end up in shelters to be destroyed.

We’ve been helping people and their pets for 21 years. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 1990, PALS has issued over 7,000 spay/neuters vouchers for local pets. The Pet Pantry provides food for pets and keeps them in their homes.  The Community Cat program provides assistance and classes for Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain (TNRM). Humane Education program teaches kindness, pet care and responsibility to children.

Thanks to you, the PALS organization has grown significantly:

  • In 2003 PALS issued 109 vouchers
  • In 2004 PALS issued 248 vouchers
  • In 2005 PALS issued 416 vouchers
  • In 2006 PALS issued 584 vouchers
  • In 2007 PALS issued 1053 vouchers
  • In 2008 PALS issued 916 vouchers
  • In 2009 PALS issued 1068 vouchers
  • In 2010 PALS issued 1805 vouchers
  • In 2011 PALS issued 2993 vouchers

Together we really do make a difference!

The humane mission of PALS benefits our human recipients in a very real way. By assisting low-income individuals with the cost of spay/neuter surgery, we reduce the financial strain on their household for this surgery, and eliminate the expense of caring for litters of puppies or kittens.

PALS collaborates with local government representatives, animal welfare organizations and social service agencies that serve low-income clients in order to make individuals and families aware of the availability of its spay/neuter services. These organizations include:

  • Community Action Inc. of Hays, Caldwell and Blanco Counties
  • City of San Marcos Animal Services Department
  • PAWS Shelter & Humane Society in Kyle
  • Hays County Food Bank
  • Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS)
  • Hays County

Prayer for Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially the animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy Mercy and pity and for those that deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kind words. Make us ourselves to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the Merciful.
